About

what I do & how I can help you

My aim is to help you uncover the root cause of your symptoms using a holistic approach.

I’m Lucy Harper, Nutritional Therapist, Wellbeing Coach and EFT practitioner

Passionate about travel, I’ve been interested in a very broad range of foods and in the link between food and health for many years.   Having obtained a degree in languages, worked around the world, I was reluctant to then go on to studying another 3 years to qualify as a nutritional therapist and a psychotherapist (I was very aware that in order to really help people you needed to know how their brains worked not just what they needed to be eating!). I decided instead to be involved in Fair Trade.

I finally made the jump to retrain as a Nutritional Therapist following the discovery of the low-FODMAPs diet which a close relative decided to try during an Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) flare-up. Whilst the low FODMAPs diet has been shown to help many with IBS not many people in the UK were familiar with the diet.

The link between diet and symptoms was so clear and yet many years of conventional medical treatment elapsed before a gastroenterologist suggested looking at the diet to help alleviate symptoms.  This was my turning point and I decided to train as a nutritional therapist.

What are FODMAPs?

FODMAPs is an acronym for fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols which are particular carbohydrates that can ferment in the gut leading to sever discomfort.  Adopting a low-FODMAPs diet can make an amazing difference to some people whilst they then investigate why they can’t manage certain foods. It is not a diet for life!

Further training

I then added coaching, trained as a Trauma Informed practitioner and finally added Emotional Freedom Technique. EFT was to fill in what I see as a missing gap in nutritional therapy and it’s much quicker to train in than psychotherapy. Having being married to a psychotherapist for the last 3 decades I feel I understand human psychology so much more than I did in my 20’s!

I have seen first-hand the amazing effect that changing diet and a nutritional therapy protocol can have on children; having had one child with a Candida overgrowth that impacted on behaviour and another child whose mental health was seriously affected by gluten. This led to me carrying out my research master on the impact of gluten on health. It also led to the publication of my paper – ‘An exploration into the motivation for gluten avoidance in the absence of coeliac disease’

Who do I work with?

I work with clients who have come to a point where they are fed up with not feeling great.  They are confused by all the conflicting messages out there and they want change.

Often my clients are struggling with unexplained pains, fatigue, and gut issues such as digestion and bloating. By looking at the root cause, we can significantly improve symptoms and even achieve a complete resolution for many.

I also help those who want to lose weight, have more energy, and better sleep. Who may be depressed or suffering from anxiety.

I use a holistic approach so not only do I consider diet and lifestyle but I also look at what may be blocking you at a much deeper level. This is why EFT and coaching are such powerful tools.

I also see clients who want to check that they are eating healthily. For instance, if they’ve decided to adopt a specific diet such as vegan diet. Or maybe they simply want to check-in that they are eating in a balanced way to support optimum health.

I strongly believe that prevention is better than cure!  If any of this resonates with you get in touch.

Sessions

I offer 90 minute consultations followed by 30 or 45 minute follow-up sessions. These are either in-person in Bristol or online. Each session can be flexible and tailored to your needs.

“Your help has completely changed my life for the better and if more people find you and can get the help they need then that’s great!
I’ve also changed my job so I’m active all day every day and I no longer eat junk food snacks to get me through the day, which is fantastic!”
